The job descriptions below reflect some general duties but not a detailed description of all duties which may be inherent to the positions. Claridan Contracting, Inc. may assign reasonably related additional duties to individual employees consistent with policy and with the ever-changing needs of the company. 


Painter

  • Apply paint to surfaces including canvas, walls, floors, doors, and cabinets.
  • Mix, match, and apply paint, varnish, shellac, enamel, and other finishes.
  • Scrape, sandpaper, prime, or seal surfaces prior to painting.
  • Clean walls to ensure proper adherence.
  • Cover surfaces with cloth or plastic to ensure protection.
  • Calculate amounts of required materials.
  • Fill cracks, holes, and joints with caulk, putty, plaster, or other fillers, using caulking guns or putty knives.
  • Erect scaffolding, movable and immovable staging and various rigging to gain access to difficult areas; moves furniture and equipment as necessary.
  • Remove fixtures such as pictures, doorknobs, lamps, and electric switch covers prior to painting.
  • Select and buy paint from vendors.
  • Purchase quality brushes.
  • Apply several coats according to paint directions.
  • Tape off areas when needed.
  • Apply touchups or second coats.
  • Remove paint splatters when finished.
  • Clean up all equipment, including brushes and spray guns.
  • Utilize spray guns for large jobs.
  • Work on ladders to reach high ceilings or walls.
  • Jump into the role of Helper as needed.

To apply as a painter, you must have at least 5 years of experience in the commercial/ residential painting industry.


Carpenter

  • Prepare the layout of the project.
  • Estimate height, width, length and other proportions.
  • Select materials.
  • Work with blueprints or instructions from supervisors. 
  • Work with materials such as wood, plastic, fiberglass and drywall.
  • Utilize chisels, planes, saws, drills, and sanders to repair and erect structures.
  • Join materials with nails, screws, staples, or adhesives.
  • Check work along the way to ensure it's up to code and specifications.
  • Use levels, rules, plumb bobs, framing squares, and surveying equipment to ensure everything is level and secure.
  • Build stairs, mantles, and furniture.
  • Install cabinets and molding.
  • Remodel homes and businesses.
  • Create structures for pouring concrete.
  • Erect scaffolding.
  • Replace panes of glass, ceiling tiles, and doors.
  • Repair or build furniture.
  • Install partitions, doors, and windows.
  • Move and install machinery.

To apply as a Carpenter, you must have at least 5 years of experience in the commercial/ residential carpentry industry.


Driver/ Helper

  • Deliver a wide variety of painting and carpentry supplies to different addresses and through different routes (knowledge of construction materials is required.)
  • Follow routes and time schedule.
  • Load, unload, prepare, inspect and operate a delivery vehicle.
  • Work on Jobsites as a painter, carpenter, and/or helper when not driving
  • Oral Communication - Speaks clearly and persuasively in positive or negative situations; Listens and gets clarification; Responds well to questions.

To apply as a Driver/Helper, you must have at least 3 years of driving experience and ability to work as a Helper when not driving. See Helper qualifications below.


Helper

  • Apply paint to surfaces including canvas, walls, floors, doors, and cabinets.

  • Mix plaster and deliver to plasterers.
  • Assist painters, carpenters and paperhangers with various duties.
  • Use sanding and buffing tools to smooth surfaces.
  • Clean up work areas before and after jobs.
  • Apply protective coverings on furniture
  • Remove articles, furniture, and paint from stripping tanks.
  • Hand over tools as needed to painters, carpenters and plasterers.
  • Erect scaffolding.
  • Gather materials for workers to handle on job sites.
  • Keep job sites clean and machines serviced.
  • Cover services with plastic material to protect them.
  • Cut and install insulation.
  • Cut and fit tile or linoleum.
  • Spread adhesives on flooring to prep for tile.
  • Build scaffolding, shoring, and braces.
  • Cut timber and lumber to specified dimensions.
  • Hold timbers, lumber, and paneling in place for fastening or cutting.
  • Drill holes in lumber.
  • Hold plumb bobs, sighting rods, and other equipment, to aid in establishing reference points and lines.
  • Assist in the layout of foundation, building lines and anchor bolts.
  • Set hollow metal doors and frames.
  • Install toilets.
  • Install trim and cabinets.
  • Place and set slabs and sidewalks.
  • Unload materials from trucks.
  • Assist with slabs and elevated structures.
  • Frame wood.
  • Establish reference points and lines.
  • Smooth and sand surfaces using power sanders.
